This week, I'm doing something very, very different. Instead of talking to you about building your business, I'm going to help you in an area that most people never give a second thought to until that phone call comes and there is an emotional crisis you must deal with in that moment.

What Would You Do?

It’s 2am.

The phone rings.

At first you ignore it and hope it stops. It rings again, and again, and again. Finally, you stumble out of bed and search for the handset.

On the phone is somebody you care a lot about. A parent, sibling, your significant other. Something horrible has just happened to them.

What do you say to them?

What should you never say?

Do you even know what you would say in such a crisis situation?

The truth is most of us have no clue what to say, and in the moment what we say can have a lasting impact. You can either help them immensely, or what you can say can actually make things worse.

This week, I’m doing something very, very different. Instead of talking to you about building your business, I’m going to help you in an area that most people never give a second thought to until that phone call comes and there is an emotional crisis you must deal with in that moment.

It happened to me back in 1995. Luckily, I had just completed an intensive training program and had at least some idea how to handle the situation.

In my case, I prevented a best friend from committing suicide. Since that time, I’ve been faced with emotional crises a dozen or more times and in each instance, I’ve always known what to do and how to handle it.

What about you?

I want to you stop what you’re doing, and make a note in your calendar right now to tune in and listen to an interview I will be conducting this Thursday.

There is NO CHARGE to listen to the interview. There is no required reading, nothing to do other than show up ready to listen and learn.

I will be interviewing Aurora Winter who has made a career out of coaching people in crisis. Her message is not only timely, it’s important for all of to hear.

She is asking only that you register so she knows you’re coming and she will send you the information so you can listen to the interview uninterrupted.

I am personally really looking forward to hearing what she has to say because I know I can learn a thing or two and you will be able to as well.

There comes a time in every lifetime when you arrive at a cross-roads. The decisions you make at this critical time can and will define who you are and how much success you ultimately achieve in your life and in your business. Yet many people fail to make the best decisions in these situations and end up regretting it for the rest of their lives. Here is a better way to make the kinds of decisions that will give you what you really want in life.

It was 1995 and I was struggling to get my business off the ground. I was excited, spinning my wheels, yet getting nowhere fast. Money was coming in, but more of it was going out than was coming in.

Before very long, I found myself questioning whether or not to close my business and give up on my lifelong dreams.

When you arrive at a point like this, there are two choices you can make. First, you can choose to throw in the towel and walk away. Many people take this route and in later years begin to regret their decision.

The other option is to keep going and find new ways to get through the rough times. While you may wonder if there’s a third choice of doing nothing, that’s really not making a choice at all and it’s almost the same as giving up because if you do nothing, you’ll soon have nothing.

So there really is only one choice and that’s to keep going.

At some point in every lifetime, there are going to be rough and uncertain times. Later in life, you’ll look back and realize that whatever it was that you decided to do during those times has literally defined who you are in some profound way.

For those people that decide to give up, they often end up feeling deep regret and tend to fade into the fabric of society rarely ever making anything much of their lives.

If you are to become a true leader, you are probably the type to keep pushing through, no matter how tough things get. In our society today, there is a real lack of true leaders. We have a lot of people who talk a big game, but few who do what’s needed to step up and lead.

When things were really tough going for me, I made the decision to stick with it. Although everybody around me at the time was encouraging me to do the “safe” thing and go find a job, I stayed the course, never lost sight of my dream, and soon began to see things changing for the better.

Today, people think I’m lucky or that I had a few good breaks that made all the difference, when the reality could not be farther from the truth.

What I had then, you have now.

What I did then, you can do now.

The only thing that will ever stop you is you.

When you truly understand this very important point, things will change in your life for the better. The biggest obstacle to your success is you. The biggest challenge you’ll ever face in life is getting past your own limiting beliefs.

Every successful person, every leader, gets and uses advice from other people in order to get where they want to go. People who rise to the level of becoming a leader know that limiting beliefs can keep them back and so they get help in order to break through to the next level.

As human beings, we get far too close to our own beliefs and they become so much a part of who we are that we can’t even see them, let alone change them. What’s needed is a person who can see us from a fresh perspective, a person who is not involved in what I like to call our “internal politics.”

Whether it’s the President of a nation, of a company, or even a solo entrepreneur, those who rise to great levels of success all surround themselves with people they rely on to help them see the way forward.

Some call them advisers, others call them mentors, and still others refer to them as coaches. Whatever title you use to refer to these people, it’s important to realize that they are the people behind the leaders.

These people are often trained to see beyond what is, and instead put their attention on what could be. They also have a keen awareness for helping you bring your limiting beliefs to the surface so that you can address them in ways that are productive.

For many people, having a coach is the difference between mediocrity and domination of their careers.

Early on in my career, I was lucky enough to realize how important having outside help was and I sought out people who could help me get past the barriers that I was simply unable to break trough myself.

I’ve had at least one, and at times as many as 6 coaches working with me at any given time.

The results I’ve seen in my own life have been amazing thanks to the people I’ve chosen to work with along the way. With their help, I’ve shaved decades of trial and error away, improved my relationships, and have earned much, much more money in a shorter period of time that I would have had I not had a coach.

Oh, did I mention that I also became a well-known thought-leader in the marketing world and continue to called upon for my guidance and opinions by other industry leaders. None of this would have been possible had I not discovered the power of having a coach every step of the way.

I have been coaching business leaders from around to see beyond the obvious, to see what they are truly capable of, and to get past the beliefs that would have otherwise held them back.

I’m part of a growing legion of professional coaches who work to hasten the rise to success of businesses, enterprises, and individuals. Since 1995, when coaching really started to gain traction, coaching has become recognized as the “must-have” resource for people and organizations looking for rapid growth.

While coaching is not designed to replace traditional psychotherapy, it is a powerful tool that can take you to new levels of success in very short periods of time.

The issues best suited for coaching involve business strategy, personal development, and empowerment.

Leading coaches make little distinction between ‘personal’ and business issues because they realize how tightly related the two can be and instead choose to work on both, often simultaneously.

In my work as a coach, I’ve yet to run into a single person who could not benefit from coaching. The rewards of working with a great coach are immeasurable because once an issue is resolved, it’s resolved for life. That means that the benefits of the work you do with a coach are in place for the rest of your life.

Think of it as an investment with an unlimited ROI because once you learn a lesson from your coach, that lesson is yours for the rest of your life to use as often as you choose.

It is important to pick your coach wisely. Be sure the person, or people, you choose can not just see the vision you hold for your future, but can get on board with it as well. Your coach should have one single agenda: yours.

They should speak your language and see the best in you in every situation. And they should have a proven track record of success working with people who are similar to you or have a track record working with businesses that are similar to yours.

Finally, your coach should have current and past clients who have become raving fans of their work.

While these kinds of coaches are not always easy to find, it’s worth the extra effort to locate them because the results they will bring to your life will have a definite and powerful impact not just on you as a person, but on everybody you interact with as well.

When you find a coach that can meet these criteria, hang onto them! Do all you can to make sure they remain part of your inner circle for as long as they continue to bring measurable value to the table.

When you’re faced with a major decision, don’t make that decision on your own, get advice, get a coach who can help you see things from a new perspective because the decisions you make today will have a profound and lasting impact on your tomorrow.

Welcome to 2010, the start of a fresh new year, and a new decade!

Every year at this time, I get tons of e-mail messages from people who are eager to tell me about their resolutions for the next year. While I am indeed impressed at what people plan on doing, what really does it for me is to see the RESULTS of what had been planned.

So as you look back over the past year, what did you accomplish? What goal did you set for yourself that you hit, and even exceeded? Or do you even remember the goals you set for yourself?

Like so many people out there, I too set goals for myself at this time of year. But I do it with a twist. Let me share with you what I mean.

Success Begins in the Shower!

I start my goal-setting process every morning while I’m in the shower. Yes, it does sound like an odd place to be goal-setting, but it works for me.

It’s a time of day when I’m not able to hear the phone ring, where I can’t check e-mail, and when I’m pretty sure that no matter what else is happening in the house or who rings the door bell, I won’t be able to hear it or respond to it.

It’s a quiet moment each day that allows me to think about what I want from that day. Is there something that I could get done that would move me towards my bigger goals? What is on my plate that’s annoying me and would feel so much better if it simply weren’t there?

Who can I call, who can I e-mail, or who can I reach out to in some way to get a question I have answered? These are the kinds of questions I ask myself each morning, as I enjoy a quiet moment in the shower.

New Goals for 2010

For the New Year, I’ll create bigger goals, but not 100 of them, not 50, or even 10. I’ll simply put my attention on 2 to 3 bigger goals that I’ve got for the coming year. It’s just easier to stay focused on fewer goals and you’ll have more energy for each of them when there are few of them to deal with.

From there, I start to plan out my first week of the year. What steps could I take even today, New Year’s Day, to start the ball moving in the direction I want to go? Today is a great day to send personal e-mail messages to people, so if nothing else, I’ll be writing this message, and many other messages to people who will play a role in helping to make my goals a reality.

Each day I make sure I have something on my list that is tied to making these 2 or 3 main goals a reality. Personally, I use Microsoft® Outlook and create an appointment for 8am each day of the week. In the appointment details screen, I’ll use it to enter my list for the day. So on Monday morning, there is an 8am appointment that when I double-click on it, opens up and I can
see the things I hope to get done that day.

It’s a very simple system that works well for me and doesn’t require anything fancy. I just use the tools that are already on my computer in front of me.

Anting that does not get done on the day I’d hoped to get it done, is simply copied and pasted onto the next day’s 8am appointment. I call the Monday appointment “Monday’s Power List”
and just change the day, but there is one for each day.

Success Strategy for 2010

Now for 2010, I’d like to share with you what this year is going to be about. In 2009, the year was about completion, it was the end of the decade, the end of en era, and the end of so many other things too.

When we look ahead to 2010, this year will be about “creation.” It’s a year where you’ll lay the groundwork for the next phase of your life and for your career. It’s a time to decide what you’ll no longer stand for and what you’re now committed to having in your life.

I suspect too that we’ll see this echoed in our society with continued big changes in how our world operates. Change is a good thing, but getting through it can be prove to be turbulent as we move from what was comfortable to what will eventually be the next level in our continued expansion.

Do yourself a favor and IGNORE as much of it as you can, and keep your eyes on the goals you’ve set for yourself. What happens “out there” has little to do with you on a personal level, but what you focus on each and every day affects you personally 100% of the time.

Consider that you are the most important person in the world and that you must take care of yourself above and beyond anything else. When you’re strong, when you’re motivated and empowered, you can change your life in ways that will amaze you.

When you’re not feeling strong, you end up being bumped and pummelled by life and you struggle to just survive.

The good news is that you always have a choice, no matter how rough things may seem right now. You were given free-will at birth and that means that you get to make the decisions in your life that are best for you. If you’ll simply do that one little thing, 2010 will indeed be a year you’ll remember.

It can be the year that changes everything.

I wish you success, happiness, insight and inspiration and I’m looking forward to hearing about how you took your life to many new levels of success of this year! And be sure to let me know how I can help you be the best you can be!

Be outstanding!

The Best Christmas Gift of All

There is something you can give yourself now that doesn’t come in box, a bag, or wrapped up with bow, that you’ll love more than anything else you get this Christmas

You may be excited today because you’re going to both giving and receiving gifts for those you love most, but did you know that there is a gift that you can give yourself that will last a lifetime and that will give you great joy for all the years of your life?

It was back in 1994, Christmas Day to be exact that I gave myself this gift. Back then I was not making much progress in my career. In fact, I had just recently left a full time job with a great salary and benefits to go out on my own.

With only moderate success to show for my efforts, I knew I needed something more than I had access to at that moment. Although I can’t remember where I first heard or saw it, but the message I got, clearly, was that the best gift you could ever give yourself is the gift of knowledge.

Up until that point in my life, I wasn’t picking up and reading many books. I wasn’t listening to many tapes, and I had never been to a seminar. I did read a magazine here and there, but I really wasn’t growing my knowledge in ways that would make a difference.

That changed for me on Christmas Day in 1994 when I sat there looking at the gifts I’d received that Christmas and thought “how long will I really remember any of these gifts?” That day, I decided to get more serious about acquiring more knowledge.

I’ve never stopped learning. I’ve never stopped growing, and I have absolutely no intentions of stopping from today until the day I stop breathing. Jim Rohn has said many times that the best investment you can make is the investment you make in yourself.

The great truth in that statement is that what you learn today can never be taken away from you and once you learn something you can use that knowledge for the rest of your life.

I would guess that since that day in 1994, I’ve probably given myself several hundred thousand dollars worth of education in the form of books, seminars, coaching, web casts, tapes, and CDs. Today I’m seen by many as being a “Master Coach” because of my vast knowledge base from which I can tap into to help my clients.

This affords me the ability to charge decent amounts for my time in exchange for being able to deliver just what a client needs the moment they need it. In many respects, I’ve become a valuable resource to my clients because of the decision I made on Christmas Day 1994.

You may want to make a new decision for yourself too this Christmas Day. Decide to give yourself the gift that will keep on giving for as long as you live. It’s the gift that can never be taken from you and it’s the gift that will change everything.

All you have to do now is decide that you want to become more than you are today. Make the decision now and then take one small step in that direction. Maybe you’ll enroll in a seminar, or maybe you’ll order a book, or an audio CD today. Whatever it is, do it for yourself now.

This Christmas can be much more memorable for you if you do, and it could well turn out to be the Christmas that changes everything.

Here are a couple of gift ideas for you:

Under the seminar banner, my good friend, Terri Levine is hosting an event in Los Angeles this January. I will be in attendance because I don’t just talk about learning new things, I actively pursue knowledge. It’s actually become one of my passions in life.

You can get the details of Terri’s Business Bootstrapping event here:

http://tinyurl.com/terrilevineevent

If you’re more inclined towards learning at home, have a look at the programs offered in my company store. There are many of them under $20 and they are worth much, much more in terms of the value they will bring you.

The store is open on Christmas Day too… http://www.UltimateWealthStore.com

Go ahead, take step in the right direction. Make an investment in you and give yourself a gift that will pay great dividends for the rest of your life.

Have a happy and fun holiday!

Are you one of those people who has a strong tendency to pay close attention to the news? Do you always seem to be up to date on whatever is going on out there?

You’re up to date on the latest political posturing, the economy, you know if the Dow closed up or down on any given day, and maybe you’re one of those who knows every detail of
a story that’s carried on for weeks or months.

Think about it for a moment. All of this means that you need to continually learn about new things each and every day. So you’re learning by reading, watching, and remembering what you’ve just been exposed to.

Now let me ask you the question that could change everything for you, as it has for me. What if, instead of investing your time watching the news, reading the paper, or browsing news magazines, you took that hour or so each day and instead read a book, listened to a training session on audio CD, or watched a DVD of a speaker or teacher instead?

If you were to do these things, which really is only a small shift in a habit you’ve build up over the years, it would not take you long at all to become a master (yes, a MASTER) at whatever you decided to learn about.

This simple strategy has been the single, most effective tool I’ve ever used in building my own career.

If I do watch or read the news, I limit my time to under 10 minutes, then I take the rest of the time to watch, listen, or read something that will help me become a better person
in some way.

And, by the way, I certainly do NOT limit myself to just business and marketing topics! I read a ton of stuff on Law of Attraction, health, psychology, self-help, video production, public relations, and the list goes on and on.

When people look at me and wonder why it is that I seem to know so much about so many different topics, I have to chuckle because all I’m really doing is investing the same hours you have too into learning things that matter over the long term (and that will affect my life) rather that on things that only matter for the moment (or that don’t really affect my life).

If I want to know about what happened in the past, I can pick up a history book and read about it. What’s most important to me is what is going to happen in the days, months, and years ahead. This is where I can make an impact and this is what drives my passion to learn.

This is why I’m writing this to you today. I’d like to help you break an old pattern that has really not served you and instead help you to create a new pattern that will serve you and reward you in many unimaginable ways in the days, months, and years ahead.

To do that, I’d like to encourage you to at very least consider adding some better influences in your life. You’re never going to get rich watching the news, but listening to powerful presentations by people who really do have your best interest at heart will make all the difference in your life.

So today, turn off the television. Make a decision that your mind is far too important to be influenced by people who’s only goal seems to be to make you feel bad about who you
are.

Instead, turn on the good stuff!

Listen to my weekly radioshow. This week, I’ll be sharing my strategies for building your business on Facebook. Tune in Wednesday at 7pm EST (4pm PST).

The vision of this show is simply to give you new ideas each week on how to be more effective in your business.

The show is now heard around the world, is syndicated on 35 web portals, is available on iTunes, and you can listen each week whenever you’d like, all at no cost to you.

So there’s one less hour you need to fill.

Next, have a look here:

http://www.ultimatewealthstore.com/products.htm

You’ll find a nice selection of programs you can listen to that will inspire you, motivate you, and educate you all at the same time!

While this is not all you can do, it’s a great start. Go ahead, give it a shot. Even if you do it for just one week, I assure you, your life will be better. Then, you’ll simply want to continue with this strategy as you create more and more success for yourself, regardless of what’s being reported in the news media!

Until next time..

Be outstanding!

Have you seen patient visits decline over the past 90 days? If you’re like many business owners, you’re feeling the pinch as consumers pull back and tighten up.

With job losses at all time highs, and no sign of anything happening in Washington having any effect on the economy, are you worried about your practice?

I’m going to let you in on a conversation I had earlier in the day about building a chiropractic practice in rough economic waters.

I have a belief about life that says that no matter what the issue, everything has two sides. There’s the positive side, and then there is the negative side.

At times, one or the other will demand more attention, but at all times, both sides are active.

Right now, it’s evident that economic bad news is the dominant story. Yet, there are many bright spots too.

In fact, right now, if you look, you can indeed find businesses that are growing.

Take Amazon.com for instance. They grew and had record sales over the holiday season, and they continue to see growth now.

Internet Retailer magazine today reported that the top 500 Internet retailers, including Amazon.com, posted an average 15.16% GAIN in sales in 2008 over 2007.

What does that mean for your practice?

Here’s my take on the issue. There are many things you could be doing right now to encourage your existing patients to come back for an office visit. The challenge for many Doctors is that they seem to be frozen as they get wrapped up in all the economic turmoil.

But, is there a positive side to all of this? I believe there is and I also believe you should be using it to BUILD your practice right now.

Here’s what I would do. First, I’d make a list of all the reasons why a patient can benefit from an office visit as they are going through
these rough times.

Think about how they may be feeling. Maybe they are feeling additional financial stress, fear, and maybe that’s having an impact on their health and well-being.

Think about all the dozens of things you can do for that patient to help them deal with the stress and fear and help assure they remain
healthy in dealing with it all.

You might write them a letter and explain that you understand that they may be feeling additional stress and that skipping getting preventative chiropractic adjustments is simply not something they should be doing right now.

I’d go on to explain to them how their body deals with stress and what that additional stress load can end up causing in terms of new health issues if it’s not managed now.

In a very friendly and non-threatening way, encourage your patients to put themselves first, to take the time to manage their health, and to make the small investment now to avoid much larger medical expenses later when things get worse.

This is a great time to let your patients know you care. They are hurting, they are worried, they are scared. As a leader, it’s your role to step up to the plate right now and lead them on the right path.

I truly believe that we will get past these rough times and the people who will ultimately lead us out of this mess are people like you and I.

We’re the true leaders in our society, and although we get little credit for our work, we know who we are, and that’s more than enough for most of us.

The people we love need us to stand tall and stand strong and help guide the way to recovery.

We can’t sit back and wait and hope it all just goes away on its own and everybody makes it through without harm.

Reach out to your patients right now. Let them know that you care and that you have the skills, the tools, and the desire to help them
make it through.

Your patients are indeed counting on you.

Be Outstanding
